Benediktas Marija Žukas
Benediktas Marija Žukas is an emerging abstract artist from Lithuania, known for his bold, expressive works that challenge traditional approaches to painting. Born in Vilnius in 1992, Zukas developed his artistic foundation through his studies in interior design at the Vilnius College of Design, where he graduated in 2015. His keen eye for spatial design and composition heavily influences his paintings, blending a sense of interior structure with freeform artistic expression.
Since his first solo exhibition in 2018 at Vilnius’s “Arts Printing House,” Žukas has steadily built a reputation both in Lithuania and internationally. His works have been showcased in prestigious group and solo exhibitions, including a personal show at “Conscience 20” in Antwerp, Belgium, and the powerful “Savistaba” exhibition in the unique setting of Lukiškės Prison, Vilnius. From 2021 to 2023, he pursued a master’s degree at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, further refining his approach to abstraction.
Žukas’s recent work, exhibited in The Great Anonymous, spans his creative achievements over the last three years. He believes that abstraction, despite its long history, remains relevant and modern. To push the boundaries of this medium, he employs unconventional tools like construction brushes and aerosol paints, creating energetic and impulsive compositions that captivate the viewer. Though seemingly chaotic, his use of color and form is deliberate and thoughtful, reflecting his background in interior design.
With several successful exhibitions across Lithuania and Belgium, Benediktas Marija Žukas continues to captivate audiences with his distinctive approach to abstract art, characterized by bright colors, sharp lines, and a strong connection to existential themes. His works speak to the modern era while retaining the timeless nature of abstraction.
