Biography of Jerry Mangelschots
Jerry Mangelschots, a Belgian artist, has crafted a multidisciplinary career spanning over two decades, showcasing his expertise in painting, sculpture, and graphic arts. His journey began in the early 1990s with formal training in graphic design at St. Lucas Antwerp (1991-1992). However, his passion for visual arts soon led him to study painting under the guidance of Hans Bruyneel at the Hoboken Academy (1997-2004). Mangelschots further expanded his artistic practice by exploring sculpture (2005-2006) at the same institution, where he worked with Raf Vergauwen.
Seeking to refine his expression in printmaking, Jerry embarked on an in-depth exploration of free graphics at the Merksem Academy (2006-2011) under the mentorship of Goedele Peeters. This diverse educational background allowed Mangelschots to create artworks with a unique blend of disciplines, characterized by a deep sensitivity to form, texture, and the subtle interplay of light and shadow.
Jerry Mangelschots’ works have been exhibited extensively across Belgium. His first public appearance was in 2002 at a group exhibition at the Hoboken Academy ("To Climb Up a Mountain"). He continued to gain recognition, with notable group exhibitions, such as the one at the Hoboken City Hall in 2005, and solo exhibitions at prominent galleries like BernArt Gallery in 2007 ("Fragments") and the Havenhuis in Antwerp in 2008.
Mangelschots' work reached international audiences when he participated in Lineart, the international art fair in Ghent, in December 2008, exhibiting under the banner of BernArt Gallery. His artistic evolution continued with several acclaimed solo exhibitions, including "Scenes" at BernArt Gallery Schelle in May 2011, and another at Galerie Paul Verbeeck in Antwerp in 2012. His solo show at Dorpsstraat Stekene in 2015, titled "Recent Paintings," marked a significant milestone in his career, showcasing his evolving aesthetic and mastery over his medium.
In 2016, Jerry Mangelschots held a prominent solo exhibition at Kunstuitleen Terneuzen, further cementing his reputation as a versatile and dynamic artist in the contemporary Belgian art scene.
